Welcome November!

The days may be shorter, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t a lot happening in the workforce system. As we send out this newsletter, we are in the middle of celebrating National Apprenticeship Week (November 12-18, 2018), and WorkforceGPS and the Apprenticeship Community have lots of resources and tools for you to learn about the latest and greatest apprenticeship programs across the country.

We just honored our Nation’s Veterans on November 11th, but the workforce system's commitment to Veterans is a full-year focus, with veterans' priority of service for our programs. To support these men and women, the Department of Labor has created the Vets Medallion Program that assists employers with their hiring needs and Veterans in finding employment. The Veterans' Priority Community has all the information you need about this exciting and worthwhile program.

Resources to Assist Veterans

Veterans deserve the full attention and support of the workforce system as the transition back into the civilian workforce. For some, the transition is quick and seamless, but for others, it takes additional time and support. The Employment and Training Administration (ETA) has compiled a number of resources to assist veterans in their employment needs, including the job finder tool that matches the veterans’ military job with civilian careers that use similar skills. In addition, ETA has pulled together a number of workplace resources to increase awareness about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) to help increase awareness to support our veterans and others with this disability.

Updates to WorkforceGPS

For frequent WorkforceGPS visitors, you may have noticed some changes. In our ongoing efforts to improve your experience, we just implemented several updates that we hope you will find helpful as you navigate to success on our website. Here are the highlights:

  • Improved Search results interface. And just to make sure, we’ve added a Search Feedback feature at the bottom of each search page. Check out the new Search by entering a search term here.
  • New-look Resource Library. We’ve replaced the ‘laundry list’ of taxonomy terms with a fresher card sort interface. See our Resource Library here.
  • Improved Events listing. Our new Events listings now have bolder subject lines, larger text, and are sorted on separate upcoming or past listings. Also, Events are now searchable! Click here to appreciate the new Events listing.
