Women's History Month

womens-history month2.pngMarch is Women’s History Month.  The National Women’s History Alliance selects and publishes the yearly theme and this year it is “Valiant Women of the Vote.”  The theme honors "the brave women who fought to win suffrage rights for women, and for the women who continue to fight for the voting rights of others."  One woman that we would be remiss if we didn’t mention her name is Frances Perkins who served as the U.S. Secretary of Labor from 1933 to 1945, the longest serving in that position, and the first woman appointed to the U.S. Cabinet.  During her term as Secretary of Labor, Ms. Perkins was responsible for establishing the unemployment insurance system, along with the first minimum wage and overtime laws for American workers.

Resources to Support Workforce Development Boards

Workforce.pngWorkforce Development Boards (WDBs) play a critical role in contributing to healthy regional economies that serve the needs of business and workers.  WDBs function in multiple roles—as a steward of Federal and non-Federal funds, overseeing a host of operational systems and processes, and as the primary architects of the State’s overall workforce strategy.  Many of you will be gathering this month at the NAWB Forum 2020 but in the meantime, here are a few resources on WorkforceGPS that highlight successful strategies of WDBs:

H-1B Scaling Apprenticeship Community

Scaling.PNGThe H-1B Scaling Apprenticeship Community is now live.  While primarily a resource for Scaling Apprenticeship grantees, the community may also be of interest to others seeking to learn from DOL apprenticeship grantees.
