March Focus: Workforce Boards

In March, we highlight the important work of State and Local Workforce Boards that provide guidance and direction for the publicly-funded workforce system. These employer-led boards are integral in making sure that our services and programs are responsive to the needs of both employers and jobseekers. Each week in March, WorkforceGPS will focus on a different facet of the role of Workforce Boards: Strategy; Data; Partnerships; and Service Delivery.

If you have a new or exciting initiative that your Workforce Board is undertaking and would like to share with your colleagues, we’d love to hear from you. Send us an email at support@workforcegps.org.

WIOA State Plan Resources

ionStates and territories are required to submit their two-year modifications to their Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Unified and Combined Plans on March 15, 2022. The Employment and Training Administration (ETA) has compiled several technical assistance resources for States as you prepare and finalize your WIOA State Plan modification for Program Years 2022-2023. These resources are posted on the Innovation and Opportunity Network (ION) Community on WorkforceGPS. Below is a list of some of the resources you will find:

  • Summary of Areas for Improvement: Identification of topics from the Program Year (PY) 2020 State Plans that a number of States could improve upon in their modification;
  • Considerations to help assess State Plan completeness and cohesiveness;
  • Tips on how to input a plan in the portal so the published version available to the public is reader-friendly; and
  • Links to resources and training.
New Community: National Dislocated Worker Grant Program

DWG sunsetThe National Dislocated Worker Grant (DWG) program provides supplemental time-limited funding assistance in response to major economic dislocations or other events that cause significant impacts and exceed the capacity of existing formula funds and other relevant resources. DWGs enable states and communities to respond to and recover from large, unexpected dislocation events such as a mass layoff or natural or other disasters. WorkforceGPS has launched the DWG Community, which is designed to provide grant recipients with a place to interact with other grantees and to access the latest program technical assistance and resources designed to support your successful grant.
