April Focus: Youth

This month we will be highlighting the many resources and technical assistance tools that the publicly-funded workforce system and our partners have created for youth as they prepare for and participate in the workforce. We start out with general resources for this population and then move to resources that focus on assessments.

The second half of the month you will learn more about the specific challenges that homeless youth and those young people with mental health issues face and how the workforce system has provided specialized services to them. If you have a new or exciting initiative that your state or local area has developed to serve youth and would like to share with your colleagues, we’d love to hear from you. Send us an email at support@workforcegps.org.

WSS Youth Resources

apprenticeshipHelping youth prepare for and obtain employment is the primary goal for workforce practitioners. The Workforce System Strategies (WSS) community features more than 250 resources related to youth employment. Among the most popular topics are creation of work-based learning opportunities, strategic employer engagement, the value of non-degree credentials, soft skills integration with occupational training, and re-engagement of youth without high school diplomas and youth disconnected from school and work.
