The Workers Lab invests in and promotes the experimentation and learnings of public, private, and non-profit leaders who are testing new ideas to improve the lives of workers across a spectrum of worker power.

The Innovation Fund is The Workers Lab's signature program; investing in leaders who are ready to move their ideas forward, to learn, and share their learnings so that others can build on them. The Innovation Fund awards social impact grants of up to $150,000 for winning ideas that help build worker power. Recipients also receive 12 months of support to test their ideas. Anyone can apply.

Each grant cycle calls for ideas around a specific theme. During the Fall 2020 grant cycle, for example, the theme was "Coming Back." The Innovation Fund sought submissions from social entrepreneurs who have innovations that can:

  • Rebuild businesses by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC)
  • Stimulate quality jobs everywhere, especially in rural communities
  • Rethink or expand the social contract with workers, including public benefits, and more
